Mark’s Update: I have added some excellent low-budget alternatives to Merax – as their store has been listing everything as unavailable for months now.
Summary: Merax cases are excellent value, though this does not mean you need to compromise on quality. For a rock-bottom price you’ll get a smart spinner case, with combination lock, telescopic handle and 4 any-direction wheels. These are hard-shell cases. They come in 5 bold and distinctive colours, and in 3 sizes. A big plus for these cheaper cases is the lightweight build. You can get a full-size case which weighs in at just 3.2kgs. This leaves you more weight for packing.

Detailed Review of the Merax Lightweight Trolley Suitcases
You’ll get a hard-shelled case made from a solid plastic shell. These are in bold colours. For me the blue one works really well. There are 5 colours in total on the product page above. You will find black and other size / colour combinations if you scroll down to the ‘customers who viewed’ section.
Merax cases come with quiet wheels. There are 4 of them, each one spins in all directions. This means this budget case acts as a ‘spinner’ type. You can push it as well as pulling it. A nice touch is the 3-level handle. For this price point I was expecting an in / out type handle.
There are two sizes:
- Medium: 65x44x26cm, 3.2kg, 61 litres
- Large: 75x50x29cms, 4.2kgs, 95l
Again, this suitcase brand has a lot of different pages with size / colour combinations – you’ll find them listed about half way down this main page.
Features of the Merax Budget Hard Shelled Case
There is a 3-dial combination lock included. This works by holding the zips in place, and locking. It provides peace of mind while your case is checked in. Casual thefts are easy to prevent. There are additional handles, one at the side and one on the top of your case.
Features continue inside the case. One half has a double zip going around it, while the other has elastic straps which cross over. If you have ever had a case without these, you’ll know how useful they are to keep everything in place.
Feedback: What Previous Buyers Said About the Merax Lightweight Luggage?
The only 1-star review at the time of writing was from someone who thought they were getting 3 cases, not just 1. While I sympathise with this in one way… 3 cases for this price? They’d need to be made of cardboard for that to work!!
Overall the feedback is very good for a budget-end case. Several people point out that the hard-plastic shell is thin. The lock and setup of it (instructions are in the product description) also comes in for some individual praise.
It feels like most people knew that they were at the budget end of the spectrum. Great quality for the price has been specifically mentioned.
Wrap Up: For a Hard-Shell Spinning Case on a Budget, Merax Have You Covered
A full sized, hard shell, 4-wheel case for this price is a serious bargain. You’ll pay 5x or even more for even a mid-tier branded item. You’ll get a choice of bold colours and sizes, and even a combo lock for some extra security.
Check out the options for yourself, and grab yourself a hard-shelled bargain.
