British Airways Double Tier Points Promo
It’s all my own fault, on February the 8th, my tier points reset to zero – and my One World Silver status will lapse. I dropped the ball. ...
Flight Deals: How to Approach Getting Great Value Airfares
Here is where most guides go wrong with flight deals information:
They forget that not all their readers are willing or able to switch their holiday to February, fly from some obscure regional airport in Europe and have a 6-hour stopover just to save a few pounds.
Sure, everyone is different, though I want the cheapest fares for where I already chose to go and (within a few days) at the time I want to travel.
That said, you can save a lot more money when you know the right tools, right approach and the tricks and traps the common consolidator sites use to get you to spend more.
Here at Luggage Review you’ll find tips and strategies for getting the best flight deals for where and when you want to travel.
Travel Money – Hotel Deals: Combined with Flights or Pay Separately?
There are good reasons why package holiday deals are so popular.
Not only are they convenient, but they are also often cheaper than paying for your flight, hotel, and transport options separately.
The key phrase is ‘often.’
There are times when it pays to book hotels separately. Hotel loyalty schemes are a major part of the strategy of experienced travellers. You get upgrades, free nights, and free meals – which will save cash on both weekend breaks and longer holidays.
Getting deals on hotels must include their location. Cheap hotels five miles from the bars, restaurants and tourist attractions don’t offer any value at all. If you are travelling with children (or just for a romantic trip away), then a hotel on top of a nightclub would be terrible.
My guides cover how to choose, book, and save money on hotel deals around the world.
Travel Money Deals: Credit Cards, Exchanges, Insurance and More
Legacy banks still charge exorbitant fees for using your cards abroad.
In fact, they double-dip.
A fixed fee plus a horrible exchange rate can eat into your holiday spending money fast.
Knowing which bank cards you can and cannot use while on holiday is just the starting point. Come cards can be linked to travel loyalty schemes. You’ll earn Avios or hotel loyalty scheme points every time you use them. Add perks like lounge access or upgrade (or companion) vouchers and the benefits of getting your travel money strategy in order quickly snowball.
I also cover common traps and scams in travel money. Insurance deals, using your SIM card abroad and changing back any spare foreign cash at the end of your trip is also covered in this section.
Luggage Deals: Cheap Suitcases are not the Best Value
Finding the best luggage deals has been the bread-and-butter of my site for six years (and counting!).
As regular readers know, I focus on value – not necessarily cheap.
In fact, the cheapest ‘no name’ luggage is often the worst value. It can be so badly made that you won’t want to risk using it after just a couple of trips. There is a sweet spot, with top end brands too expensive for many people. When you think in terms of price per trip, the mid-market brands shine through.
You probably know the style that appeals to you. This could be hard-shell, soft shell or the super-light glossy finish premium ranges. My guides will help you get the best products that fit your taste and your travel needs.
Getting Deals on Travel Accessories
I count my foldable travel kettle among my most prized possessions!
This not only saves me money, it means I get a cuppa before needing to get dressed to leave my hotel room.
Travel accessories cover security, comfort (think pillows on the plane), and those handy gadgets which make like on the road more bearable. Reviews of travel accessories have their own section here at Luggage Review. These articles focus on using gadgets and accessories to save money and make your life easier.
Travel Money: Coupons, Gift Cards, and Freebies
Often destination-specific, there are multiple ways to save money on activities and food / drink while you travel.
Groupon is noisy these days (though can still throw up a bargain or two). I cover everything from games (think MyVegas) to gift cards that come with discounts or cashback in this section. The number one rule is that you need to be sure you’ll be using your card or voucher before parting with money for it. It only takes one card to expire after it was forgotten about to give back everything you saved.
