Even though I was fully expecting BA to launch a sale after the peak travel summer season ended, it was still a major relief to see it land.
Better still, this is a big sale (even by BA standards) with deals for all the major routes and classes.
Here is what is included:
- USA fares (business and economy)
- European (again, all classes)
- Winter Sun (including last minute bargains from £219pp)
- City Breaks (New York from £499 for 3 nights caught my eye)

BA End of Summer Sale 2023: Flights to the USA
Flights over the pond have been expensive lately.
Those business class fares have gone from pricey to crazy, and even premium economy can make your eyes water at times.
As a big fan of Las Vegas, I checked there first. The headline was ‘Flights from £513’. That turned out to be for May 2023. Thought prices don’t jump significantly until June.
After going down the rabbit hole of choosing dates, you do get to pay more to go from Economy Basic to Economy Standard (anyone else find this a cheeky way of providing cheaper headline prices). That bumped the total to £668, about £100 more than the lower headline.
With this in mind, here are a couple of example fares to the USA in the current BA sale:
- New York from £334
- Los Angeles from £411
- Boston from £370
- Business Class to the USA from £1760 (New York)
BA End of Summer Sale 2023: USA Holidays
Combining flights with hotels (and / or a car) is a great way to lower the cost of your holiday.
There are multiple options for holidays, including fly / drive trips in this BA sale.
New York again caught my eye; those start at just £499pp for 3 nights – which should be doable with hand-luggage only. The options for Las Vegas are also decent value as long as you don’t already have comped hotels from previous trips.
Remember that the cheapest hotel options are not always optimally placed.
European and Worldwide Flights in the 2023 BA Summer Sale
I had to smile for the European business class flights section… These start at £71. But only if you want to go to Newcastle. Other cities are good value, Budapest starting at just £134 for example.
There are premium economy deals on long haul routes in the £200 to £300 range. Those do some with checked in luggage. Exotic locations including the Maldives and Mauritius also get deals.
You can fly to the Caribbean, with Aruba, Barbados and St Lucia all covered.
BA.com and Winter Sun: Including Last Minute Deals
I don’t usually associate BA with winter sun and all-inclusive type holidays.
This may need reconsidering after seeing the list of bargains in the BA end of summer 2023 sale. The cheapest deals were in Spain, Malta, and Portugal. The format works, you click on the hotel / destination combination, then see a grid with the dates and prices.
Flights were from London.
Wrapping Up: Final Thoughts on the BA Sale
This is a decent, though not spectacular sale. It gives me hope that the ‘bounce back’ spike in demand for travel is fading – and that we will return to more normal airfares soon.
Once one of the major airlines has a major sale – the others follow.
