Detailed Review of the Samsonite Pro-DLX 5 – Expandable Spinner Luggage
Let’s start with the size and build before I dive into the pockets and extras which make this a top pick for business travellers.
This is 55cm tall, 40cm across and either 23cm or 28cm deep – depending on whether you use the expansion option. It weighs in at a modest 3.2kgs. While not a super-light option, this is on the better side of average for business hand-luggage.
Capacity of 40.5 litres (or 51.5 if you expand).
Pro-DLX 5 suitcases are made from super-tough nylon. This has a soft look, though will repel splashes, and will not scuff or rip. The ability to wipe it clean should not be underestimated.
While there is a silver Samsonite logo badge across the front, the DLX 5 does not feel overtly branded. It looks more like a rolling laptop / business bag than a standard carry-on case for me.

As a Samsonite user for many years, I have never had a broken wheel. The small, elegant wheels on the DLX-5 Pro spinners are super-tough. You can choose to push the case or pull it behind you. At the other end of the unit, the telescopic handle smoothly clicks into place. You won’t get the wobbly handle that is common on cheap luggage from Samsonite.
There are padded handles on the top and the side for ease of putting your case into the overhead lockers.
A combination lock that grips the zip heads is higher up the side than many other brands. If you use it as business luggage, this saves bending all the way to the office floor… a small yet vital detail.
Inside Features and Pockets
If you look closely at the picture above, you’ll see a cable peeking out of the front of the DLX 5.
This is connected to a power bank. Charging on the go is vital these days, and no serious business luggage would miss this. Note that you need to buy a power-bank, this is not included.
There is a decent sized pocket on the front of these cases. This is perfect for your tickets and travel documents.
Open the Pro-DLX 5 and you’ll see why this is such a popular business case. One size has three zipped compartments. I love the dark red contrast on the top two. On the other side you’ll see the garment bag for your suit or spare shirts, and a separate smaller pocket.
This side of the spinner is open, ideal for clothing, and that all-important bathroom bag.
