Of all the hard-shell spinners from American Tourister – the Speedstar looks the most like its name.
There is something about those diagonal lines, some doubled, and the glossy surface of the shell which gives it the feel of rapid movement. Speedstar cases come in three sizes and in four colours. They are bold, without being crazy and elegant without being stuffy. Each sits on four spinner wheels and has a lock and inside compartments in line with the other popular American Tourister suitcases.
For me, this is fantastic value – less than half of what you’d pay for other ‘big name’ brands, and top-quality.

Detailed Review of the Speedstar Hard-Shell Spinner Suitcases from American Tourister
Ridges appear to start at the bottom corner of the Speedstar cases. They reach around to the top, stopping at different points along the way. Even the logo badge on the front is angled, it feels like it got swept away by those ridges.
Speedstar cases come in three sizes:
- Large: 102 litre max capacity, 77.5cm tall.
- Medium: 70 litre max capacity, 67.5cm tall.
- Small: 33 litre max capacity, 55cm tall.
You get to pick from four colours. I’m focusing on the Atlantic Blue version. The others are Black (always the most popular), Deep Turquoise and the elegant Rose Gold.
Outside Features
This is a spinner suitcase. There are four wheels (note the distinctive designs) which sit at each corner. While you won’t often spin your case, the name comes from the fact that you can rotate it 360 degrees. It does give you the option to pull or push your case – depending on the flooring and how crowded things get.
A telescoping handle fits snugly into a cut-out at the back of these cases. There are also handles, one on the side and one on top, to help you move your case around.
Speedstar cases lock. This is a three-digit combination lock on the side towards the top. Perfect for deterring casual theft. For anyone that travels to the USA, the override key is a must-have.
Speedstar Suitcases Review: Inside is an American Tourister Standard Issue
A big plus for the inside is the use of PET materials. This is recycled from used bottles (though you’d never know just from looking / using).
You get one closed compartment. This has a zip around three sides. The other side e is open, with elasticated straps that clip together in the middle to keep things under control. At this price point, you don’t get the fancy insides of Samsonite or Antler cases. Packing cubes will help if you do feel you need this.

Excellent feedback for the Speedstar cases across different retail platforms. This (and many comments from individuals) match the feedback for the other ranges from this brand.
One comment that I auto translated from the German made me chuckle:
“The suitcase is delivered in a very large cardboard box. In this cardboard box, the suitcase is also packed in a smaller box. When unpacking the suitcase, I could not detect any unpleasant odours…”
It did get more practical after that!

I’m sold on the design – for me it works brilliantly with the Atlantic Blue version. Based on the spec, price point and feedback, this is a great value case too.
You get a shiny hard-shell spinner with unique (though not to loud) diagonal ridged design. These cases lock, the biggest two will expand and the inside is practical though not complex. Add the TSA override, and American Tourister quality – and you have a case for the shortlist.
