Samsonite Intuo Suitcases

Mark’s Summary: For me, the Intuo luggage range from Samsonite is a reminder of their history (albeit with super-modern touches). The hard-shell and profile of these cases reminded me of the days when suitcases were huge, solid slabs. In those days you got fixed wheels at one end and pulled your case at a strange angle. Intuo suitcases have a spinner design, along with telescoping handles.

These are instant classics and like all Samsonite cases come with a full 10-year warranty. They’ll be looking great for years to come.

Detailed Review of the Intuo Spinner Suitcases by Samsonite

As usual, I have started with the sizes, colour options, and design. Below this you’ll find more detail on the key features for the inside and outside. This is followed by the reviews from travellers that have been using Intuo cases for a while – then my own final thoughts.

Sizes:

  • Hand Luggage with Front Pocket: 55cm – 48 Litres – 2.7kg
  • Hand Luggage without Front Pocket: 55cm – 45 Litres – 2.3kg
  • Medium Spinners: 69cm – 87 Litres (expanded) – 3.1kg
  • Large Spinners: 75cm – 115 Litres (expanded) – 3.6kg
  • XL Spinners: 81cm – 144 Litres (expanded) – 4.1kg

There are also options to get a carry-on size along with a backpack. Samsonite backpacks are excellent, so I’d recommend taking a quick look!

There are multiple colour options. Like all luggage makers, Samsonite likes to come up with exotic names for each colour, thus my own interpretation in brackets for each one.

  • Black (no interpretation needed, the classic!)
  • Blue Nights (super-dark blue, you need to double-check that it is not black)
  • Olive Green (dark green, smart, and serious)
  • Apricot (bright orange, you won’t miss this one on the airport carousel)
  • Lime Green (in your face bright green)

Design-wise these are modern-day classics. While the lines catch your eye at first, it is the profile that has the class. They remind me of the old slab cases before spinners were a thing. Without the weight of course. The matte, non-shiny material will help avoid those scratches which can come easily to the metallic-effect cases elsewhere in Samsonite’s range.

Intuo suitcases are made with Polypropylene. This help with keeping scratches at bay and keeps the right balance with toughness and lightness.

You get a full spinner setup. While those wheels look small and neat, they are super-tough. My experience with Cosmo-Lite and other Samsonite Spinners over multiple trips is that no airport luggage system is a match for those wheels. There are telescoping handles, which fit snuggly into the top.

In addition, you get a TSA-enabled combination lock. This is the type that grabs two zip-heads. There are even stickers to personalise your case with your initials.

Side and top handles make Intuo cases easy to manoeuvre. There is a bottom grip on the medium and upwards.

The smaller of the spinners comes with a front pocket – ideal for stashing your laptop.

Inside Features of the Intuo Range

Here’s something that caught my eye – the lining of these cases can be removed and washed. This might be a ‘wheels’ moment. As in, how come nobody already thought of this!

Samsonite used their standard one closed / one open side setup for Intuo cases.

The closed side zips fully shut, with two pockets for those smaller items. The open side is lined and has elasticated straps to keep larger items in place. I like to use packing cubes with this setup.

Feedback: What Regular Users of the Intuo Suitcases Said?

Comments across the platforms are important for me – as its impossible for one man to fly enough to fully test every new suitcase design out there.

It’s always strange how some people note that they bought expensive cases from Samsonite, while others emphasise that they got a bargain. What came up multiple times is value for money. This covers a lot of Samsonite luggage. It’s a combination of a mid-level price tag, along with the durability / years that these cases last.

The weight got multiple compliments – note that this is not the lightest in the Samsonite range.

On the negatives side, the spinners not getting onto a Ryanair flight was noted. One person found the cases flimsy. Note that comment was an outlier – most people mentioned the opposite.

While positive overall, the feedback for the Intuo range does not hit the same super-high levels are some other Samsonite cases get. That said, nothing that would stop me buying one if the design appealed.

Final Thoughts: Are Intuo Suitcases Worth the Money?

Classic designs with all the latest materials and technology that make Samsonite such a hugely popular brand – I’m a fan of the Intuo range and am happy to recommend them.

The darker colours work brilliantly with this range, complimenting the angled lines. For those that like luggage a bit more on the brash side, the orange and lime green ones certainly stand out.

If you want the hand-luggage version with a front pocket, make sure you get the smaller (45 litre) of the two options.

Samsonite cases last for years, making them better value than cheaper options over time.
